Future Aviation Security Solutions: Call Open

A call for proposals to fund development of concepts which could offer a step-change over existing approaches to aviation security.

The Home Office and Department for Transport are developing a Future Aviation Security Solutions (FASS) Programme. By 2021, FASS will invest £25.5m to develop and exploit technology, capabilities and knowledge to deliver a step-change to existing aviation security capability.

The first call of FASS went live yesterday. The call is part of a wider DfT Transport Technology Research Innovation Grant (T-TRIG) and is being run prior to the FASS main launch event scheduled for the end of 2016. Whilst the wider benefits and outcomes of FASS are being defined, this call is being run to stimulate ideas generation and test initial concepts.

The call provides funding to support the development of concepts which could offer a step-change over existing approaches to aviation security. Projects which show potential can bid into future FASS open calls later to support further development and testing. £300,000 is available for this FASS call within T-TRIG to fully fund up to 10 projects for a three month period (September to December). A 30% advance payment option is available to grant recipients.
