GDS and CCS work with techUK for Digital Marketplace Events

Buyers and suppliers invited to attend events in seven cities around the UK.

The Government Digital Service (GDS), the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) and techUK are today launching a series of Digital Marketplace buyer and supplier events. Held in seven cities over two months, the fourteen events will provide market insight for buyers and both existing suppliers as well as new entrants to the market from across the UK.

Naureen Khan, Associate Director – Central Government at techUK, comments: "To meet the government's commitment to open up the market to a wider supply base and deliver on Matthew Hancock's vision of a tech-savvy civil service that is using the best and most innovative technology, it's vital that both buyers and suppliers around the UK have the opportunity to come together to learn about the best way to buy and sell using the Digital Marketplace . Technology has the potential to simplify government processes and make iterative improvements, to deliver the necessary wholesale transformation of our public services. Government also has a role to use its buying power to support the growth of British based tech companies"

Each city will host two, free events, one for suppliers and one for buyers. The supplier events will provide the latest insight into the upcoming developments of the Digital Marketplace, including the changes planned for G-Cloud 7 and the re-design of the Digital Services Framework. The buyer events, for public sector representatives from local and central government, will cover agile ways of working and give the best practice guidance on using the Digital Marketplace.

Carlos Oliveira, CEO and Founder of Shaping Cloud, comments: "These events provide an opportunity for businesses around the country to really understand how to make best use of the Digital Marketplace. By being better informed, we can provide better solutions and services, which ultimately offers better value to the taxpayer. As a Manchester based SME, I am delighted to see techUK and the Government hosting these important events in the region, especially given its recent pledges of support for a northern powerhouse."

The aims of the events are to:

  • Raise awareness of the Digital Marketplace
  • Educate buyers on how to procure what they need, simply and quickly
  • Educate suppliers on how to sell to government
  • Give buyers and suppliers a chance to have their questions answered in an open discussion environment.

Last year, techUK's Regional events bought together 100 buyers and 200 suppliers in three cities.
