Girls Can Code

The BBC has just launched a new show that sees a group of bright young women parachuted into the cutting edge world of tech, Girls Can Code.

Five girls with a hidden talent for computer coding take on the male-dominated digital world.

The series features an all-star cast with big names including Hassle.com founder Alex Depledge, 3D printing pioneer Roberta Lucca, mindfulness guru Kate Unsworth, campaigner and computer scientist Sue Black and influential investor Eileen Burbidge.

The participants are taken on a journey not unlike TV's The Apprentice. In the first episode they learn about coding and hone their entrepreneurial skills before a potentially life-changing pitch in front of Passion Capital's Eileen Burbidge.

Hassle.com's Alex Depledge acts as co-host and gets the girls fired up about having confidence in their own ideas. She shares her solid credentials during the programme - in the space of just two years under her leadership, her company Hassle.com raised multimillion pound investments and successfully exited, valuing the company at over £23m.

Eschewing all the usual stereotypes, it introduces us to a group of confident female leaders in areas as diverse as fashion to computer games and most-importantly, a brighter future.

Episode 1 of Girls Can Code is available to watch on BBC iPlayer until 16th October.
