Graduate Opportunities

Adopt an Intern receives £427,000 investment.

A successful programme to support graduates towards employment has received further investment from the Scottish Government.

Adopt an Intern has found 700 graduates paid placements to date, with around 85 per cent going on to find permanent employment.

The further investment of £427,000 for 2014/15 is expected to support 230 graduates into positions relevant to their level of qualification, enhancing their employability skills.

Cabinet Secretary for Training, Youth and Women’s Employment Angela Constance said:

“Internships can be just the break that a young graduate seeking employment needs to get that first foot on the career ladder and Adopt an Intern has a proven track record of providing the right support to match the right graduate with the right business.

“Hands on experience at a business, large or small, will help develop new skills while giving graduates the necessary experience of a modern workplace. Precisely this kind of exposure will help our talented and enthusiastic university leavers successfully find sustainable employment in their chosen career path.

“Earlier this year we saw the publication of the final report by the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce, which recommended that levels of work-based learning are increased and links between education and employers enhanced.

“Our support for Adopt an Intern fits well with the ambitions of the report, as we prioritise improved skills as a means of growing Scotland’s economy.”
