Group looking at the future of Mid Wales healthcare awarded £200,000 funding

The Welsh Government and NHS Wales have awarded £200,000 to the Mid Wales Healthcare Collaborative to take forward its work programme and ensure the public and healthcare professionals are involved.

The collaborative was set up following the publication of the Mid Wales Study and to challenge and support Betsi Cadwaladr, Hywel Dda and Powys health boards and the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust as they work together to modernise health services across Mid Wales.

The three health boards have committed to provide £50,000 funding each to the collaborative’s work and the Welsh Government is also providing £50,000, which help meet costs, including backfill to cover clinical commitments, holding public meetings and office costs.

The Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust is providing staff time to support engagement and communications and work to improve transport to access services.

Health and Social Services Minister Professor Mark Drakeford said yesterday:

“I am pleased to see that the member organisations of the Mid Wales Healthcare Collaborative are showing commitment to fund this work alongside the Welsh Government.

“The Mid Wales Healthcare Collaborative has brought together people who have a stake in the future of services in the region. The team is working to create a new approach to delivering health and social care which will be developed with health and social care professionals and the people of Mid Wales.

“The funding we are announcing today will allow the collaborative to move ahead with some short-term actions, including developing options to improve orthodontic and community dental services in the area”
