Health Minister thanks Healthy Prestatyn Iach team

Health and Social Services Minister Mark Drakeford dropped in to meet the team behind the new Healthy Prestatyn Iach ahead of its launch today.

The service is the first of its kind in North Wales and will give people living in Prestatyn a wider range of healthcare professionals than the two medical practices it is replacing.

Healthy Prestatyn Iach will provide care for patients of the former Pendyffryn Medical Group and Seabank Practices.  It will run alongside Healthy Ruddlan Iach, which replaces another GP practice.

Health and Social Services Minister Mark Drakeford said:

“The Healthy Prestatyn Iach team have worked hard to create a new service for people locally that will offer care from a range of healthcare professionals.  They have created a new service, designed with the needs of the local population in mind, in a short space of time following the sudden termination of the Pendyffryn Surgery contract last autumn.

“The GP surgeries this service replaces were facing recruitment difficulties.  However, I understand that nine GPs have already been recruited with more to be appointed.

“Healthy Prestatyn Iach represents a more prudent way of providing local healthcare, using the skills of our dedicated primary care workforce and supporting them to innovate and develop the services they provide.

“I want to thank all the staff who have worked hard to set up the Healthy Prestatyn Iach service.  They can be proud of the improved service they will be offering to people locally.”

Advanced nurse practitioners, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, community workers, midwives and dietitians will be working as part of the Healthy Prestatyn Iach team, joining GPs.

Five multi-disciplinary teams will take on responsibility for caring for a specific group of patients.  This means that patients will be seen directly by the most appropriate professional for their needs and will ensure that GPs can devote their time to those patients with the most complex conditions who need to see a doctor.
