South Yorkshire Police

Officers’ accounts

We have four South Yorkshire Police officers left to interview who we believe have amended accounts. We are continuing with extensive analysis of all police officers' amended accounts, including ongoing work to identify any patterns in relation to the types of amendments that were suggested, the timings of when these were made and by whom. In addition we are reviewing the evidence given at inquests during the recent ‘evidence-gathering’ phase and identifying any further lines of enquiry around the amendment process.

Police Federation

We have completed our interviews with South Yorkshire Police Federation representatives who attended branch meetings after Hillsborough. This work was carried out to establish the purpose of the meetings and what was discussed. We have been carrying out further work around the Federation meeting that was attended by Michael Shersby MP several months after the disaster. This includes analysing associated documents and minutes and identifying all officers who attended.

Police National Computer (PNC) checks

We have now completed our investigative work around why checks were made against the names of some of those who died on the PNC database. We have taken all known lines of enquiry as far as we can at this stage, however we will continue to assess the impact of any new evidence that comes to light, either through the inquests or as the investigation progresses, upon this area of work.
