Household income increases in Wales

Stephen Crabb: "Rewarding work by helping people keep more of the money they earn is at the heart of our plan to support hard-working families."

Wales saw the biggest increase in household income of any region of the UK between 2010–13, according to newly-released figures.

Disposable income per head in Wales grew by 7% over the period, ONS statistics show.

Secretary of State for Wales Stephen Crabb said:

Rewarding work by helping people keep more of the money they earn is at the heart of our plan to support hard-working families.

By increasing the personal allowance in the last Parliament, we took thousands of people in Wales out of tax. We plan to raise it even further and our five-year lock means there will be no income tax, VAT or National Insurance rises in this Parliament.

Disposable incomes in Wales are starting to catch up with other parts of the UK. This is good news and evidence that more people in Wales are benefiting from our economic policies.
