Hunt is on for Britain’s most wanted fugitives

Nine men suspected of committing murder, rape and drug trafficking offences are among Britain’s most wanted fugitives believed to be hiding in the Netherlands.

The men feature in the latest appeal to be launched under Operation Return - a National Crime Agency and Crimestoppers initiative to track down fugitives who have fled the country.

David Ungi, aged 24, from Liverpool, and Shane O’Brien, aged 28, from London, who are wanted in connection with separate murders, have been added to the most wanted list along with alleged drug traffickers David Walley, aged 40, and Shazad Ghafoor, aged 29, who are both from Manchester, and Ahmed Omer, aged 45, from Nottingham.

This is the fourth Operation Return appeal to be made since 2010, the previous three have so far resulted in 10 out of 14 fugitives being apprehended. The outstanding four are being re-publicised in conjunction with the new faces.

Dave Allen, Head of the International Crime Bureau at the National Crime Agency, said: “The NCA and its partners will pursue fugitives relentlessly. In the last five years, over 100 fugitives linked to Operation Return and other operations have been arrested in the Netherlands and brought back to the UK to face justice.
