ICO appoints new non-executive member

The ICO has appointed a new non-executive member to join its Management Board.

Nicola Wood worked as a solicitor before holding a number of board level appointments, mainly in financial services and health. She has also worked in a pro-bono capacity with vulnerable consumers including the elderly, children and those with mental health issues.

Information Commissioner Christopher Graham said:

“Our non-executive members play an important governance role at the ICO, bringing their wide ranging expertise to bear on our work, and taking an interest in particular strategic initiatives and projects. Nicola is a welcome addition to the team, and I look forward to working with her.”

Nicola Wood said:

“This is an opportunity to affect the debate around information rights at a crucial time, with more and more of our personal data being used in different and creative ways. I’m especially interested in the organisation’s work around vulnerable adults, where I hope my experience can prove particularly useful.”

The Management Board comprises the Commissioner, his senior management team, and four non-executive members. The Board provides leadership and support to the ICO, and governance in respect of the spending of public money. There are four non-executive members of the board, who serve for three years, renewable once.

The appointment was made by the Commissioner following public advertisement, and was triggered by the appointment of Enid Rowlands as chair of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
