ICO enquiries into Virgin Media email

The ICO has received a number of calls today from people concerned about an email recently sent out by Virgin Media. The email appears to allow individuals to reply to all of the other customers who received the same email by clicking on the ‘reply all’ response

We have issued the following statement confirming that we will be looking into this matter to establish the full details.

ICO spokesperson said:

“We have recently been made aware of a possible data breach relating to emails sent out by Virgin Media.

“We will be making enquiries into the circumstances of the alleged breach of the Data Protection Act before deciding what action, if any, needs to be taken.”

We do not require any further complaints from the public at this time as we already have sufficient information to take our enquiries forward.
