IPCC appeal for witnesses to an RTI in Wembley that has left a man in critical condition

The IPCC has begun an investigation into a road traffic incident in Wembley involving a police vehicle that has left a man in a critical condition in hospital.

Two officers were responding to an emergency domestic violence call and were driving on Wembley Hill Road around 1am on Sunday 10 July in a marked car with blue lights on.

As the vehicle was travelling south towards the Harrow Road, opposite the entrance to Wembley Stadium station, a male pedestrian emerged from the pavement into the path of the police vehicle and was struck, causing him serious injury.

The IPCC is appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision or the police vehicle prior to the incident. Anyone with any information should contact the IPCC on 0800 151 0019 or email witness@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk

Initial information indicates that the man, 40 years old and from Poland, suffered a fractured skull and a broken leg. He was taken to a local hospital and is currently in a critical condition.

IPCC investigators were deployed to the scene of the RTI that morning and obtained data from the police car and CCTV recordings.

Initial statements have been obtained from the two officers and witness statements are in the process of being taken. The IPCC is in the process of contacting the man’s next-of-kin who will be updated as the investigation progresses.
