IPCC begins investigation into police involvement prior to collision outside nightclub in Porthcawl

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has begun an investigation into  police involvement in the circumstances leading up to a collision in which a number of people were injured outside a nightclub in Porthcawl in the early hours of Sunday 25 October.

A 24 year old man has been charged with a number of offences following the incident and appeared at Bridgend Magistrates Court on 26 October.

The IPCC is appealing for any witnesses who were in the vicinity of John Street, The Portway or nearby roads who saw a white, marked police transit van and any interaction it had with a white Audi A4 in the few minutes prior to the collision. The Audi collided with several people outside Streets nightclub on John Street at around 1 am on Sunday 25 October.

Witnesses can contact the IPCC on 0800 151 0019 or email porthcawl@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk.

The independent investigation follows a mandatory referral to the IPCC from South Wales Police immediately after the incident.

IPCC Commissioner for Wales, Jan Williams, said: “A police van was in the vicinity shortly prior to the collision and our independent investigation will examine what police action was taken in respect of the Audi, and whether relevant procedures were followed.”
