IPCC calls for witnesses following Polsham, Somerset road incident

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has begun an investigation into the circumstances of a road traffic incident in Polsham, between Wells and Glastonbury in Somerset in which a 47 year old man suffered serious injuries.

At around 2:20am, on Saturday 23 April 2016, a man being spoken to by Avon & Somerset officers on the side of the A39 Wells Road, Polsham, was struck by a blue X-type Jaguar travelling towards Glastonbury, when he moved away from police and onto the road.

The man was seriously injured as a result of the collision and was airlifted to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Avon & Somerset Constabulary referred the incident to the IPCC, and we have decided an independent investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision will be carried out.

The IPCC is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident on the A39 Wells Road, Polsham at around 2:20am on 23 April to call 0800 096 9079 or email polsham@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk

Also, investigators would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the man in the Polsham, Croxley, or Wells areas in the hours prior to the incident. He is described as white with light, partially greying hair, and was wearing dark trousers and a dark denim jacket at the time.
