IPCC investigating Wiltshire Police handling of possession of indecent images of children

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the actions of Wiltshire Police in relation to an investigation into the possession of indecent images of children.

Wiltshire Police made a referral to the IPCC on 18 February 2016 following concerns about the way officers handled an investigation into reported indecent images of children found on a laptop.

The IPCC decided to conduct an independent investigation, which will also look at the time taken between the seizure of the computer and its subsequent examination.

The investigation, which is in its early stages, is being overseen by IPCC Associate Commissioner Guido Liguori.

A notice has been served on a detective sergeant advising him he is subject to a gross misconduct investigation.

The IPCC investigation began after Michael Ponzo admitted 40 charges, including serious sexual offences against children. He was jailed recently at Swindon Crown Court for a total of 10 years with an extended licence of five years.
