IPCC investigating actions of officers during Camden incident

The IPCC has taken over an investigation into the actions of two Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officers during an incident in north London.

In video footage of the incident, widely shared on social media, an officer can be seen repeatedly striking the windows of a black Ford Fiesta in Weedington Road, Camden, at around 5pm on Friday 16 September 2016.

IPCC Commissioner Cindy Butts said:

“A large amount of public concern has been aired since this incident and I would like to reassure people that we will thoroughly investigate the officers’ actions.

“It is important that we independently and thoroughly investigate the full circumstances of what happened. We will be seeking to speak to the complainant in this incident to hear his version of events as soon as possible.”

A complaint by the driver of the Ford was referred to the IPCC by the MPS on Monday evening.
