IPCC investigating alleged failures by Avon and Somerset Constabulary in connection to the death of Paul Retallick

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is independently investigating alleged failures by Avon and Somerset Constabulary before and after the death of a 35-year old man from Yeovil.

Paul Retallick died in September 2012 after being assaulted by Lee McGinty. Mr McGinty was subsequently convicted of manslaughter and is currently serving an eight-year prison sentence.

The IPCC investigation is examining a complaint about Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s response to a reported incident and a series of threats against Mr Retallick before he died.  It will also examine a complaint about the handling of the criminal investigation into his murder.

Associate Commissioner Guido Liguori said: “I would like to offer my condolences to Mr Retallick’s family and friends. It has been two and a half years since he died and his family still have a number of unanswered questions. It is important that this investigationestablishes all of the facts around police actions before Mr Retallick’s death and during the course of the criminal investigation in order to determine exactly what happened.”
