IPCC investigation after man is bitten by a Cleveland Police dog

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has begun an investigation after a man was injured by a Cleveland Police dog.

The incident happened on the evening of 6 June 2016 as a police constable (PC) was exercising two police dogs in a field near to Ormesby Stables in Eston.

A 28-year-old man was bitten by one of the dogs, a German shepherd, and suffered puncture wounds. The PC was also injured by the dog during the incident. Both required hospital treatment.

IPCC Commissioner Carl Gumsley said: “Firstly, I hope that the injured man and the officer both make swift recoveries.

“The independent investigation, which is now underway, is looking at the circumstances of the incident.”
