IPCC investigation into fatal road traffic incident in Slough

The Independent Police Complaint Commission (IPCC) has started an investigation in a fatal road traffic collision in Slough on Thursday 8 December.

The driver of a Peugeot 206, a 36 year old man, died after colliding with a Vauxhall Astra van on the M4 westbound slip road at junction 7 shortly after 7am. Prior to the collision the Peugeot had been followed by a marked Thames Valley Police vehicle.

The man suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been informed of the man’s death and a post mortem will be held in due course. He is yet to be formally identified.

There were no other passengers in the Peugeot, and the driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The independent investigation will examine the actions and decisions of the officers involved and the circumstances leading up to the collision.

After being notified of the incident IPCC investigators attended the scene and the post incident procedures where officers provided their initial accounts of what happened. Radio communications and computer data from the car will be analysed to help to establish the circumstances of the incident.

IPCC Associate Commissioner Guido Liguori said:

“I send my thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of the man, and all those affected by this sad death.

“Investigators have made contact with his family to explain our role, and will be keeping them updated as the investigation progresses.

“It is likely a number of people may have witnessed the incident and we ask that they get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact the IPCC on m4rti@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk(link sends e-mail) or 0800 015 4876
