IPCC to investigate use of force by Greater Manchester Police

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is to investigate the use of force on a man by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers during his detention at Longsight Police Station.

Neville Edwards, 31, was arrested by GMP on 16 July 2015. It is alleged that officers used excessive force on him during his time in custody. The IPCC received a voluntary referral from GMP on 28 January 2016.

The independent investigation will look at whether the force used towards Mr Edwards during his detention on 16 and 17 July 2015 was proportionate.
