IT Apprentices urged to enter prestigious UK IT Awards

IT Apprentices are being encouraged to showcase their talents by entering the UK IT Industry Awards run by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, together with Computing.

The IT Apprentice of the Year is a new category in the prestigious UK IT Industry Awards, and BCS is calling on employers to support their apprentices by nominating them for the Award.

Jos Creese, President, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT explains: “IT apprenticeships are forming an increasingly essential platform from which the UK will build the IT profession of the future. They also help to fill the widening IT skills gap that the UK faces. I want to encourage IT apprentices to enter, but also managers of apprentices and their organisations to nominate their apprentices.”

The UK IT Industry Awards celebrate the country’s technology innovation and successes, showcasing the depth of quality and talent in the IT profession. In total there are 25 categories focussing on the contribution of individuals, projects, organisations and technologies that have excelled in the use, development and deployment of IT in the past 12 months.

Jos continues: “A formal and recognised apprenticeship scheme develops practical experience at all levels of expertise, quickly and in the context of the demands for IT talent from government and from business. Winning the IT Apprenticeship of the Year award will not only demonstrate personal professionalism, but it also sets a benchmark of achievement for the employer.”

IT Apprentice of the Year will be awarded to an individual who is participating in an approved IT apprenticeship programme that involves part-time formal study to gain IT qualifications, together with paid work experience to enhance skill and understanding. The apprenticeship must have been on-going in March 2015.*

Entry is via an online application process and initial judging will take place in August. In September, finalists will be invited to give presentations or an interview with an expert panel of judges drawn from across the IT industry. The winners will be announced at a gala evening event at the Battersea Park Events Arena, London on 18 November.

Full details of how to enter are available at: www.bcs.org/industryawards

* Please note: If any finalists are under the age of 18 at the time of the Awards dinner in November 2015, they must be accompanied by someone over the age of 18.
