Independent investigation started into alleged use of excessive force by a Greater Manchester Police officer

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating allegations that a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officer used excessive force during an arrest.

complainant alleged that on Sunday 20 July she was left requiring hospital treatment after being struck in the mouth by a Pc dealing with an incident in Wilmslow Road in the Withington area of Manchester.

The complaint was made to the force on 20 August. GMP voluntarily referred it to the IPCC on 17 September and the IPCC started an independent investigation on 27 October.

James Dipple-Johnstone, the IPCC Commissioner for Greater Manchester, will oversee the investigation.
