Inspection of Walsall school improvement support

Ofsted has published the outcome letter of its inspection of Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council’s support for school improvement.

The inspection of Walsall Council was conducted by Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) between 29 February and 4 March 2016. Nine schools were inspected as part of this exercise and a telephone survey of a sample of 24 schools and academies was carried out between 24 and 25 February.

During this follow-up inspection visit, HMI held discussions with the Chief Executive Officer; the Lead Elected Cabinet Member for Learning, Skills and Apprenticeships; the Chair of the ECB; senior and operational leaders and staff; headteachers, principals and governors; school improvement partners and the chairs of the local authority’s school partnership clusters.

A range of documents were also scrutinised by the inspection team, including assessment outcomes and information on pupils’ achievement, school performance data, policies and strategic action plans.

The inspection followed the inspection of the local authority’s arrangements for supporting school improvement in June 2014.
