International artists take to the streets of Stoke-on-Trent for the Big Feast

French acrobats, Portuguese contemporary dancers and swing bands playing Madchester scene dance tunes, are set to transform Stoke-on-Trent into a huge festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Supported by Arts Council England, Appetite in Stoke-on-Trent has worked with local communities to bring art and culture out on to the streets of Stoke-on-Trent and beyond, taking over bus stations, parks and town squares, with an exciting mix of theatre, dance, music, circus and poetry.

Wowing audiences with their headline acts will be Southpaw Dance Company in Carousel, an intense fairground-theme production; French company Rara Woulib will be leading people on a mysterious night time tour of Stoke in Deblozay; and aerial circus Extraordinary Bodies will perform Weighting accompanied by live music from a local choir.

Also on the menu will be Corey Baker and his Headphones showing the world how to dance; Wet Picnic will be offering audiences a chance to see what hides on each floor of the hilarious show The Lift; and Light the Fuse will reveal a new way to look at the life of a bus stop with Full Stop.

To whet people’s appetite in the run up to the bank holiday weekend, a pre-festival Taster Tour will also see artists appearing in shopping areas, parks and other venues across North Staffordshire.

“Art and culture make the places we live vibrant and exciting, and that is exactly what the Big Feast will be doing in Stoke over the bank holiday weekend,” said Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England. “Appetite has a fantastic line-up planned and I hope people who are out and about in in the city will be intrigued, entertained and inspired by the creative goings on.”
