JRF - Responding to the Annual Poverty lecture speech

Julia Unwin, Chief Executive of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation responded to the Annual Poverty lecture speech.

Poverty in the UK is costly, risky and wasteful. By focussing on action to reduce costs, increase life chances and participate in a growing economy, Ruth Davidson has put the focus firmly on tackling the causes of poverty, not treating the symptoms. Government, employers, local communities, families and the individual citizen all share responsibility for tackling poverty.

"Ending poverty in the UK is not just an issue for the 13 million people who experience it every day. Only by breaking the link between a low income and diminished life chances we can make life in the UK fairer and reduce the insecurity and huge financial cost that poverty pushes onto us all."
