If you are passionate about providing good care, looking for a new challenge and the chance to take the skills you will learn from the experience back to where you work, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) wants to hear from you. 

CQC is offering exciting secondments for people already working in the NHS to join its team of hospital inspectors.

We want people to be on the side of patients, and to challenge where they see poor care. 

We want people with knowledge or experience of healthcare, be able to analyse information, have experience of conflict management, have solid communication skills and are able to make decisions based on the information available.

The roles, for two years, will be suitable for those currently working at Band 7 and for someone looking to gain managerial experience. Full training will be given.

As an inspector, you will play your part to check that services are safe, effective, responsive, caring and well led. One day you might be carrying out an inspection, another day writing a report or taking enforcement action against an organisation which provides a service.

Ellen Armistead, deputy chief inspector of hospitals at the CQC, said: “It is an exciting time to join CQC as we continue to develop our inspections across acute, community, mental health and the independent sector.

“I believe these will give valuable opportunities for career development and will, in due course, bring back to the NHS people who have additional expertise in the assessment and delivery of high quality care. “

Michelle Dunna joined the inspection team in January 2014 after a long career in the NHS, most recently as a Ward Sister in Nottingham. Her role includes inspecting community, acute and independent hospitals, as well as responding to enquiries and writing reports.

She said: “I was after a new challenge after 30 years working as a nurse. My role in incredibly varied, and I can now see my work making a real difference to the people who use the services.

“Going on an inspection gives me immense satisfaction as I get to see first-hand how a service is run from the people that use it.

“I am proud to work for CQC. I would encourage anyone who is looking for a new challenge to consider applying for the secondment.”
