NICE Scholarships are 1-year opportunities for qualified health and social care professionals to find out about the inner workings of NICE and undertake a supported improvement project, related to NICE guidance, within their local organisation.

NICE Scholars are supported in their project via a series of workshops, access to a very experienced senior mentor and contact with the expert teams at NICE. Scholars are expected to devote approximately 7.5 hours per week to their Scholarship project.

NICE Scholarships are typically awarded to specialist registrars, senior nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals, service improvement leads, public health and social care specialists and health service managers.

NICE Scholars gain insight into how NICE supports implementation of national guidelines, and support and encourage the development of evidence-based high-quality care.

“The best thing I have done in years”

Liz Robb is a Senior Special Care dentist, and an outgoing NICE Fellow.  During her time at NICE, Liz acted as an ambassador for NICE at a local and regional level alerting both dentists and dental care professionals to the lesser known aspects of the work of NICE.

Commenting on her experience, Liz said: “It has been a wonderful three years, the support of everyone at NICE at all levels has been excellent. It has also been one of the most efficient organisations I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with in my career. I have been very impressed.

“The scheme broadens horizons, the workshops are of the highest calibre with some excellent speakers, and the opportunity to attend the NICE annual conference is a real bonus. Like everything else, you get out of it what you put into it, but the return on my investment was very worthwhile. It’s the best thing I have done in years.”

Recruitment for the 2016 intake is open until 13 November 2015. Find out more about the scheme and apply now.
