Join the nationwide spring clean this weekend

Take part in Community Clear Up Day this weekend.

Businesses and individuals across the country are being urged to roll up their sleeves this weekend and take part in Community Clear Up Day on Saturday 21 March 2015.

Community Clear Up Day is a ‘national spring clean’ campaign, led by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Its aim is to spruce up the country’s high streets, residential and business areas, villages and parks, beaches and footpaths.

Litter is a persistent, costly, avoidable problem, and can have a huge impact on the quality of streets and public spaces. Clear Up Day is designed to bring communities together and take pride in their local area.

So far nearly 500 groups and individuals have registered to take part in their own clear up this weekend, and the scheme is being supported by household brands McDonald’s, Mars Inc and Wrigley.

Staff across DCLG and Defra will be taking part in their own litter pick this week.

How to take part

The following short video explains why we should all take pride in our areas and pick up and recycle as much litter as possible. Taking part is free.

To get involved, download this handy Community Clear Up Day toolkit which includes all the information you need to organise your own clear up day.
