Knighthood conferred on Eric Pickles

The Queen has been pleased to approve that the honour of Knighthood be conferred upon the Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP.

Eric Pickles has been MP for Brentwood and Ongar since 1992 and served as the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government from 2010 to 2015. He also served as Chairman of the Conservative Party from 2009 to 2010.

Prior to entering Parliament, Eric had a long career in local government: he was elected to Bradford Council in 1979 and was Leader of the Council from 1988 to 1990.
