Lammy Review on criminal justice discrimination: David Isaac responds
Commenting on the publication of preliminary findings of the Lammy Review into racial bias and black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) representation in the criminal justice system, Equality and Human Rights Commission Chair David Isaac said:
"Everyone must have confidence that our justice system treats people fairly, regardless of their ethnicity. These early findings sadly confirm research from our most recent report on race that black and ethnic minority people continue to be treated more harshly.
"It is deeply worrying that significant proportions of society believe the criminal justice system is discriminatory. This is why we are urging Government to put in place a comprehensive race strategy with stretching targets to reduce the race inequality that still pervades our society.
"We look forward to the publication of the Lammy Review and its recommendations next year."
