Lancashire update: United Utilities begins lifting boil water notice
Water watchdog expects swift compensation to follow lifting of boil water notice.

The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) is pleased that United Utilities is continuing to lift the boil water notice which has affected more than 300,000 customers in Lancashire.
United Utilities began gradually lifting the notice last Thursday (August 27) in areas where the water supply is now considered safe to drink and no longer at risk of contamination from cryptosporidium.
The third phase of the lift began last night (Tuesday) and customers who are unsure whether the notice still applies to their area should visit the United Utilities website here
The company continues to regularly update the list of postcodes where customers no longer need to boil their tap water.
Andy White, Senior Policy Manager at CCWater, said: “We are pleased that drinking water supplies are beginning to return to normal. It has been a very frustrating three weeks for customers but safeguarding public health should always be the top priority.
“Once the boil water notice has been completely lifted we expect the company to honour its pledge to compensate all affected customers. This should be done swiftly and without hassle for customers. We are in discussions with United Utilities to ensure its approach to compensation is fair and reflects the significant disruption that has been caused to customers.”
