Last days to have your say on Local Government reform

There isnt long left to contribute to the Welsh Government’s consultation on its Draft Local Government (Wales) Bill.

Published in November 2015, the Bill sets out how  up to nearly a billion pounds of savings can be made in order to protect frontline council services. Under the bill, the current 22 councils will be merged into 8 or 9, cutting overheads, including the number of Councillors and senior officers.

The consultation includes proposals to improve leadership, diversity and transparency. It is  also seeking views on the proposed structure. The consultation closes next Monday 15th February 2016.

Public Services Minister, Leighton Andrews said:

“There has already been an excellent response to the consultation on the Draft Local Government (Wales) Bill.

“The Bill sets out actions to improve local government and make our Councils fit for the future. This will affect  people across Wales.

“I would therefore encourage everybody with an interest not to miss this opportunity to have their say.”
