Legal Aid Agency - Civil news: our approach to civil legal aid work from 2018

Headline intentions document covering civil legal aid contract work from 2018 published on 20 January 2017.

A headline intentions document is now available setting out our approach for civil legal aid contracts from 2018. We intend to award new contracts with services starting from 1 April 2018. The new contracts will be for specialist legal advice delivered both face to face and via the Civil Legal Advice telephone helpline.

A tender for these contracts will open in April 2017.

Service delivery remains similar

We intend to keep services broadly similar to how they are delivered under current contracts. We are not proposing any significant amendment to specialist telephone advice contracts.

However, we do intend to make a small number of changes to our approach to commissioning face to face services. The key changes are set out in the headline intentions document.

Housing Possession Court Duty Scheme

The headline intentions document includes details of how the Housing Possession Court Scheme will be managed. A government policy consultation about this small area of work is also now available. The proposal is to run a competitive tender for this work which will include an element of price in the criteria for awarding a contract.
