Liberal Democrat commit to 24 hour energy switching

The Liberal Democrats today made a commitment to enable people to switch energy suppliers within 24 hours.

techUK believes 24 hour energy switching is a step forward toward energy markets which utilise innovative technology for the benefit of consumers. We have been working with the energy regulator Ofgem over the past year on their faster energy supplier switching project by allowing techUK members who specialise in the tech solutions that could underpin a faster switching system to talk to the energy regulator about how this can be achieved.

To explore the process of achieving 24 hour switching, techUK is continuing its collaboration with Ofgem this year by hosting the workshop "How will next day energy supplier switching be achieved?" on June 16th with our members and a senior representative of Ofgem to discuss the barriers and opportunities of achieving a 24 hour switching regime. techUK will continue to work with industry and other stakeholders to address this issue. If you are member and have any questions about the session, please get in contact.

This insight is part of techUK's wider engagement with all political parties ahead of the 2015 General Election, building on our asks of the next potential government as laid out in "Securing our Digital Future: the techUK manifesto for Growth and Jobs 2015-2020"
