We are pleased to announce that the Local Government Association (LGA) has published its Local Government National Category Strategy for ICT 

This is the culmination of work which began in March 2012 when we set up a partnership with the London Borough of Camden for collaborative ICT category management across 33 local authorities.

The partnership aimed to address the fact that, whilst authorities buy similar goods and services from the same supply base, procurement activity was largely uncoordinated. It successfully introduced a focus on technology and innovation, commercial improvements through supplier relationship management and new procurements.

The project saved £2.45 million in its first year so we are delighted that it has resulted in the launch of a Local Government National Category Strategy for ICT, which supports the wider government strategy in ICT.

The approach has been received very positively by industry including the Society of IT Managers (SOCITM).

Helen MacCarthy, Director of Customer Service at the Crown Commercial Service commented:

It demonstrates that as a customer-centric organisation the Crown Commercial Service is able to respond to the commercial challenges of our customers and work together to create solutions to overcome them.

We are delighted to have seen a 50% increase in the use of our agreements across all categories - not just ICT - among London authorities since we started working with Camden. This clearly shows how we are building confidence in our ability to provide solutions and support, not just for central government but for our wider public sector customers too, delivering increased savings for the taxpayer.”
