Longer trains take to the rails

The first five-car trains will be introduced on the London Overground network from next week.

The extra carriage will increase passenger capacity by 25% and give customers a more comfortable ride.

London Overground has proved highly popular and the additional car will allow around 170 more people to travel on every train.

The upgrade is part of TfL's £320m programme to boost capacity on the network and the roll-out of the longer trainsis due to be completed by the end of 2015.

By 2018, the service will also carry more passengers on the Gospel Oak to Barking route, once the line is electrified and its diesel trains are replaced with electric ones.
