Lord Bourne attends Tata Steel Task Force

Lord Bourne: "Our immediate focus now is to work with our Task Force partners to support workers at Tata Steel sites in South Wales".

Wales Office Minister Lord Bourne will attend the second meeting of the Tata Steel Task Force on Monday (1 Feb).

The Task Force has been established to identify and oversee the practical actions that can be taken to support employees affected by the job losses announced by the steel company last month.

Lord Bourne will represent the UK Government at the meeting in Cardiff.

Wales Office Minister Lord Bourne said:

The UK government is committed to working closely with the steel sector and our partners to secure a more sustainable future for the industry and Welsh steelworkers.

Global market conditions are hugely challenging. The UK government has taken clear action to help the industry, through cutting energy costs, taking action on imports, government procurement and EU emissions regulations, meeting key steel industry asks.

Our immediate focus now is to work with our Task Force partners to support workers at Tata Steel sites in South Wales.

Together, we are engaging closely with Tata to identify any further support we can provide during this difficult period.
