A disposable SepsisBox developed in Wales that contains all the essential items to provide immediate care for patients suspected of having sepsis will be unveiled to an international audience of healthcare professionals next week.

Rocialle will be promoting SepsisBox at Medica, the world‘s largest medical marketplace. The four day international trade fair and congress (14 - 17 November ) in Dusseldorf specialises in Medical Technology, Electromedicine, Laboratory Equipment, Diagnostics and Drugs.

Rocialle, which employs 350 people at its Mountain Ash site, is one of 44 companies from Wales participating in the Welsh Government’s trade mission to Medica next week.

Rocialle developed SepsisBox in collaboration with Cwm Taff University Health Board and the 1000 Lives Improvement Service, NHS Wales, as part of the Bevan Commission’s innovation programme, Health Technology Exemplars.

The disposable and easy to use SepsisBox is currently being trialled at Health Boards and Trusts across Wales and England.

The Rocialle box has six doors behind which are the items needed to deliver the Sepsis Six care bundle. Ensuring everything is to hand and guiding a nurse along the pathway, SepsisBox facilitates the delivery of the correct care during the all-important first hour after the initial diagnosis of sepsis. 

Interim results have already shown improved patient outcomes and a reduction in the number of patients requiring to be transferred to the critical care department,  saving hospitals £1,200 per patient, per night.

The interim results from the trials are very encouraging and Medica will provide a great platform to exhibit and promote the SepsisBox to an international audience.”

 This year 44 companies and 90 delegates are participating in the Welsh Government trade mission to Medica - the largest contingent to date.
