Major expansion as Llanrwst firm embarks on £1.3m investment that will create 40 new jobs

Work is underway on a major new £1.3m headquarters for Llanrwst based GM Jones Ltd that will create 40 new jobs and safeguard a further 46 with support from the Welsh Government.

The building company acquired land on Parc Ty Gwyn from the Welsh Government to build their new 13,700 sq ft premises that will include offices, workshop space and a showroom.

The expansion is supported by £400,000 from the Wales Economic Fund to create and safeguard jobs and to enable the business to expand, exploit new business opportunities and meet the growing demand for its services.

GM Jones Ltd employs 116 people and has seen turnover increase from £3.6m in 2012 to £6.9m in 2015 with a projected turnover of around £8m by the end of this month.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“I am delighted the Economic Growth Fund is supporting the expansion and growth of GM Jones Ltd and enabling the company to take advantage of new opportunities in the market.

“Construction is one of our key sectors with high growth potential so it’s good news to hear the company will be creating new jobs in the region and providing a range of employment opportunities for local people.”

Commercial Director Jenny Hudson said:

“We are experiencing on-going growth and our new premises will be vitally important for the business – enabling us to realise our growth potential, providing us with the resources and space to expand.

“We cannot continue at our current level of trading at our existing premises and Welsh Government support was essential in enabling us to go ahead with this investment and planned job creation.”

GM Jones Ltd has developed its core business to its maximum potential and is now expanding and diversifying into new build using Integra Spec ICF (Insulating Concrete Formwork) systems, with an initial focus on the social housing market

GM Jones Ltd has the exclusive licence for the Integra system in Mid and North Wales and the West of England and will also be using it for the construction of their new offices.

The sustainable, high performance system is widely used across Europe and enables fast construction of creative, flexible buildings with low running costs, high energy efficiency and a long life.

Jenny Hudson added:

“The Integra System is very innovative and is already creating a lot of interest and our new offices will become the ideal showcase to promote how effective it is and illustrate the benefits of this system.”

The company’s growth is also due to diversifying from traditional procurement to framework contracts during the recession. It has successfully secured insurance repair work from a leading insurance management company and now services Mid and North Wales and the North West of England.

It is also on the framework for new build with all local authorities across North Wales and carries out housing improvements for all local authorities.
