Merseyside Police officer guilty of misconduct in public office
A Merseyside Police officer has been found guilty of misconduct in public office, and has been given a two and half year custodial sentence.
Temporary Police Sergeant (T/PS) David Andrew Gibson, 43, faced an allegation that whilst on duty he engaged in a sexual act with a sex worker, in May 2015. He was found guilty following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
The allegation against T/PS Gibson has been subject of an investigation conducted by Merseyside Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit and managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
The decision to charge was authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service.
IPCC Commissioner, Carl Gumsley, said: “Merseyside Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit, under the management of the IPCC, conducted a thorough, and professional investigation into the allegation against T/PS Gibson. It is vital that such allegations against police officers are brought to the attention of the police and the IPCC, properly investigated, and the appropriate legal proceedings allowed to take their course.”
