Experts from the Met Office will be speaking at this year's RenewableUK 2014 event, demonstrating how the organisation's world-leading forecasting technology and scientific research capabilities can support the renewables sector in the UK.

Michelle Spillar, Head of Renewables, will talk to attendees about the latest innovations from the Met Office, covering the applications and core developments that are already being deployed to support organisations across a range of vertical industry sectors.

Michelle will be addressing delegates at the  RenewableUK conference on Tuesday 11th November at 1.05pm. The presentation, being delivered as part of the event's Business Showcase, will cover the latest from the Met Office on topics including:

• Virtual Met Mast - the next generation wind analysis tool for the development sector, providing fast and accurate wind farm site screening
• Site Wind Index - providing site-specific climate benchmarking and data for low wind insurance products
• Seasonal forecasting for the operations sector - a breakthrough, world-first capability for wind

Stephen Norman, Renewables Consultant at the Met Office, will also be speaking at the conference with a presentation entitled, The Importance of Wind, as part of the event's Public Day, open to members of the public free of charge on Thursday 13th November (10-11.15am). Through an introduction to on-farm renewables, Steve will provide unique insight on a range of topics including:

• The Met Office forecast model
• The Met Office's new supercomputer
• Blade design, wind shear and intensity
• The role of wind speed, gusts and turbulence
• Projected revenues and life costs
• Estimations of long term average wind speed
