Minister announces £500,000 to improve domestic abuse services

The Minister for Local Government and Government Business, Lesley Griffiths AM, has announced capital funding of up to £500,000 for domestic abuse services.

Organisations across Wales will benefit from the additional grants which will enable them to make changes to their buildings or purchase equipment to improve the delivery of their services.

Lesley Griffiths AM said:

“To support the practical aims of the Gender-based Violence, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Bill which I introduced to the National Assembly for Wales last month, I have identified £200,000 additional funds, which increases the 2014/15 capital budget from £300,000 to £500,000.

“The proposed legislation and the additional funding highlights the Welsh Government’s commitment to not just preventing sexual violence, domestic abuse and gender-based violence and putting an end to it where it exists, but also helping victims deal with their experiences and reclaim their lives.

“The services who will benefit from this money work tirelessly to this end, and I am very pleased I can support them in this way.
