Minister backs scheme rewarding Wales’ ex service personnel

Yesterday the Public Services Minister, Leighton Andrews launched a new campaign to promote the Defence Privilege Card to ex service personnel in Wales.

Speaking at the Armed Forces Champions event in Carmarthen, the Minister outlined how the Welsh Government and its partners are supporting the Armed Forces community in Wales.

He told delegates:

"We owe our Armed Forces, past and present, an immense debt of gratitude and we must continue to work together to support them and their families.

"The revised package of support launched by the Welsh Government last year is already delivering a range of benefits to current and ex service personnel, including improving access to health and housing support services.

"However, by working together and sharing experiences, I believe that we can do more to ensure our Armed Forces community consistently receives the best possible support.

"By launching today's campaign, I aim to raise awareness amongst the Armed Forces community of the benefits of the Defence Privilege Card and encourage sign up."

It is free to sign up to the Defence Card. This gives holders access to discounts on a range of goods and services, and as part of the campaign, companies in Wales are being encouraged to join the scheme.
