Minister confirms extension of management grant funding for environment groups

Natural Resources Minister Carl Sargeant has agreed an extension of grant funding for thirty one projects registered with Environment Wales until the end of March 2017.

On a visit to Amelia Trust Farm, one of the funding recipients, the Minister said the £418,000 would allow community groups some certainty and continuity of funding to enable them to deliver on their current projects at the same time as preparing to make a bid directly to Welsh Government under new grant funding arrangements.

Carl Sargeant said:

“These 31 projects range from environmental enterprises and land management projects to food growing and recycling schemes and provide significant benefits to the communities in which they are based.

“I am pleased the funding I have agreed will enable them to complete their work and they will still also have the opportunity to apply for future funding direct from the Welsh Government.

“The changes have been made to make sure that the grant process is as simple and straightforward as possible for those applying. The new system means that grants awarded by my team will be more strongly focused on Ministerial priorities, will deliver multiple benefits for communities and will build capacity and create lasting change.  This will also help to ensure better value for money.”

The 31 projects to receive a share of the £418,443.88 continuation funding are as follows:

Amelia Trust Farm, Valeways, The British Trust for Ornithology Monitoring Project, Homemakers Community Recycling, Sea Trust South and West Wales, Erlas Garden Project, Welsh Ocean Wildlife Roadshow, Field Days Organic, Blaen Bran Community Woodland Project, Sustainable Communities, Barry Community Garden & Allotment, Long Wood Education & Conservation Project, Wise Woods Volunteer Programme, Garth Hillside Organic Garden, Greener Living Project, Dyfi Osprey Project, Coed Gwern, National Beekeeping Centre for Wales, Pembroke from every Angle Greener Estates, Wildlife at St Madoc Centre, RAY Ceredigion Recycling & Scrapstore, Glaslyn Wildlife, Eco-Learning at Little Bryn Gwyn, Mid Wales Red Squirrel Project, Local Trees for Local Woods, Llangattock Community Woodland Project, Pembrey Access and Habitats, Wild Nature: inspiring young people, Car Agor, Community RePaint.
