Minister sees community benefits of Warm Homes investment in Cardiff
A £2.3 million energy efficiency scheme that has made 250 homes in Cardiff warmer and easier to heat was visited by the Finance and Government Business Minister Jane Hutt.
The homes in the communities of Brynfedw, Llanedeyrn, and Trowbridge, are having energy efficiency improvements including loft and external wall insulation; draft proofing and upgrades to heating systems.
The funding was provided to Cardiff Council through the Welsh Government’s Warm Homes Arbed scheme, which was delivered under our Wales Infrastructure Investment Programme.
The Minister said:
“I was delighted to meet residents of Brynfedw who are benefiting from cheaper energy bills and warmer homes under our flagship Warm Homes scheme.
“Arbed is delivering significant improvements to people’s homes across Wales in communities like Llanedeyrn and Trowbridge under our Wales Infrastructure Investment Programme.
“Since 2013-14 we have invested £80 million in Warm Homes. Providing warm, affordable homes remains a key priority of the Welsh Government. This week I announced in the Draft Budget a further £5 million funding in 2016-17 for the Warm Homes NEST scheme as part of the £230m capital boost.”
During her visit the Minister met residents and Cardiff Council officials together with representatives of Melin Homes and a local contractor to see the community and individual benefits of the programme.
The Chief Executive of Melin Homes, Mark Gardener, said:
“The impact made by the Welsh Government Warm Homes Arbed project has been huge and we are so proud of our part in its success.
“We are delighted to be working with W.K. Plasterers and The City of Cardiff Council to deliver much needed energy efficiency improvements to people’s homes and are thrilled to be managing a further extension of the scheme in Brynfedw."
Cardiff Council Cabinet Member for Transport, Planning and Sustainability, Councillor Ramesh Patel, said:
“We are proud to be so closely associated with this scheme which saves residents money and also reduces CO2 emissions from their homes. We host the Little By Little Project Officer who is funded by the Welsh Government and plays such a key role in advising residents about the way they heat their homes. The installation of rock wall boards and rendering on Brynfedw properties vastly improves the insulation of these homes and we hope to successfully complete work on the site by the end of March 2016.”
