Ministers attend the opening of the Welsh Field of Remembrance
First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones and the Minister for Public Services, Leighton Andrews attended the opening of the Welsh Field of Remembrance Yesterday at a special ceremony in the grounds of Cardiff Castle.
A two minute silence was be honoured at 11.00am when Royal British Legion buglers will played the Last Post and the exhortation was read.
First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, who took part in the ceremony by planting a tribute in memory of a fallen soldier, said:
"I am proud to be attending this event to honour those who have died in conflict.
“We owe an immense debt of gratitude to our Armed Forces and veterans. This year, as we mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War, there is an even greater opportunity for us to remember those who took part in the War, and the impact of the conflict in shaping modern Wales.”
Public Services Minister, Leighton Andrews said:
“The Field of Remembrance is a strikingly visual recognition of their sacrifice and our appreciation of that sacrifice.
“I would like to thank the Royal British Legion for the ongoing support they provide to the Armed Forces community in Wales.”
National Chairman of The Royal British Legion, John Crisford said
“Each year, the Fields of Remembrance show how much heartfelt feeling there is for our Armed Forces who are sadly no longer with us.”
“The range of tributes in this Field, from those commemorating the fallen of the First World War, through to those commemorating more recent sacrifices, honour the memory of the fallen and demonstrates the public’s gratitude towards members of the British Armed Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of our country.”
