More Momentum: additional investment announced for trailblazing music fund

We have announced a further £1 million investment in the Momentum Music Fund, paving the way for more outstanding musical artists to be given the opportunity to develop their career potential for another two years.

Launched in 2013 and managed by the PRS for Music Foundation, more than 120 artists have already benefitted from Momentum support. The fund was set up to address research findings showing that a lack of available finance for artists at an early stage of their careers was restricting the diversity of high quality music breaking through. Since it was established, the fund has been a stepping stone for artists to move onto bigger and better things.

So far, 72 new albums and 100 UK tours totalling over 650 live dates have been made possible by the fund. The additional £1 million investment will mean the PRS for Music Foundation can continue to make this positive impact on the UK music scene.

Helen Sprott, the Arts Council’s Director for Music and London said:

“The Arts Council has always been interested in music’s talent pipeline, and we are dedicated to giving a wide range of artists as possible access to funding and support. One of the ways we do this is through the Momentum Music Fund, and it’s clear that plan has worked. That’s why I’m thrilled to say we are committing an additional £1 million to the fund over the next two years. I’m excited for us to continue developing our relationship with the independent music sector, and of course I can’t wait to see the talent that will emerge from the fund in the next two years; I hope they will go onto apply to other Arts Council programmes, enabling us to fund new projects, new ideas, and to reach and inspire global audiences.”
