More successful applicants announced to our Strategic touring programme

Yesterday we announced four more organisations that have been successful in the latest round of our Strategic touring programme, securing investment to a total of £272,367.

The successful applicants include North East-based AV Festival, who will be able to tour artist Susan Stenger’s sound installation piece ‘Sound Strata of Coastal Northumberland’, after its highly popular appearance in this year’s festival.

A full list of successful applicants to this, the sixteenth round of the Strategic touring programme, can be found here.

About the programme

The Strategic touring programme aims to give people better access to quality work across a range of venues to more people across the country. It targets places with low levels of art engagement and those that rely on touring for arts and culture. In particular, it increases work for and by children and young people and people from diverse backgrounds.

Alan Davey, Chief Executive, Arts Council England said:

‘From sound installations on the Northumberland coastline, to a tour by one of our greatest orchestras to some surprising places and settings, these latest awards demonstrate the breadth of work that the Strategic touring programme continues to support.

‘The Arts Council are committed to reaching audiences throughout England, and touring is a fantastic way in which to build capacity and partnerships across the sector. This programme helps to provide access to great art and culture to currently less engaged areas, contributing towards our goal of increasing the number and range of people from across England.’

Year two analysis: making a real difference

In September we published the year two analysis of the Strategic touring programme. The report outlines how the programme achieved the following in its second year:

  • a total of 61 projects received £9.3 million of investment in 2013-14
  • 58% of the investment will reach places with historically low arts engagement
  • over 9,800 performances and exhibition days were offered this year
  • 41% of the activity will reach children and young people
