NEF: “More use to lawyers than fishers”

In response to the Adam Smith Institute’s 10-point plan for the UK fishing industry, Griffin Carpenter said:

“The Adam Smith Institute’s plans for a 200 nautical mile border will be of more use to Britain’s maritime lawyers than fishers. Redrawing maps will make no difference to when cod move in and out of UK waters. The inevitable consequence would be that each nation rapidly fishes down the stock while it migrates through its own waters.”

“The European Common Fisheries Policy has ensured improved fish numbers and record profits for the UK. What’s needed now is level-headed collaboration with our European allies to ensure good jobs and continued investment in Britain’s coastal communities.”
