NGO forum on implementation of global education into the curriculum of formal education

Forum "Global education - engagement, growth, sustainability," which takes place on 8-10 June in Valmiera, embodies one of the major discussions under the Latvian Presidency on development/global education and the importance of its integration into the curriculum of formal education.

The Forum aims to collect and update experience in development/global (DE/GE) education of the European Union (EU) and the Eastern Partnership countries, and take advantage of this target group cooperation and expertise to jointly develop recommendations for introducing the global dimension to the education agenda and daily behaviour.

After the Forum, a publication "Recommendations on placing the Development education dimension on School agenda" will be published electronically, and will be disseminated among DE/GE education practitioners and policy-makers in the EU.

The target group represented in the Forum consists of education and development professionals, civil society activists, teachers and high school youth. Forum will bring together more than 70 participants, acknowledging GE/DE experience of 10 countries. NGOs Education Development Centre (Latvia) MONDO (Estonia) and Leeds DEC (United Kingdom) will share the experience to emphasize the importance of schools as the DE/GE resource centres in local communities. Viewpoints on the future prospects and opportunities of young people in promoting sustainable development will be shared by the organisationNaZemi (Czech Republic), as well as by international network EUROCLIO - represented by Georgian NGO GAHE and Ukrainian NGO NovaDoba. Representatives of the NGO ImPuls(Germany), Latvian and Slovak representatives of the international GLEN network will invite Forum participants to discuss on awareness of young people and the wider public, their civic participation and sustainable growth in the future perspective.

The Forum is organised by the Education Development Centre (EDC) in cooperation with the organisation GLEN Latvia and Vidzeme University of Applied sciences.
A particular importance in the organisation of the Forum is attributed to the cooperation with Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, which is demonstrating decentralisation of knowledge and innovation along with principles of balanced regional growth.

Global Education Forum is one of the largest sustainability measures that EDC will carry out in the framework of the European Commission' s project "Global dimension in Social Science subjects in Formal Education", which is a well targeted process of updating global education at local, national and EU level.

Project has established a network of 21 Latvian school. Young people representing these schools will provide an important contribution to such content of the Forum, adding the voice of the future leaders.

Forum "Global education - engagement, growth, sustainability" is financed by the State of Latvia.
